I love doing winter photo sessions! Each season in Ontario is drastically different and perfect for photo sessions in their own way. When I was planning this winter maternity session we knew that we wanted to have the photo session in a field.
I think shooting in an open space during the winter is beautiful because of the way that a white snow covered ground looks against a muted sky. The field also had a gorgeous line of trees breaking up the horizon.
This location also worked well with the couples’ outfits for the photo session. We planned on layered outfits with hand knitted sweaters to compliment the landscape. Corbin’s sweater was actually knitted for his dad when Corbin was younger. Teagan’s layered outfit was the perfect balance to show off her pregnant belly in an understated way.
When thinking about what to wear for your photo session think about the location. It’s important that the colours you wear compliment your surroundings and that the patterns your wearing are not competing with the patterns of the details that will be around you. Always dress for the weather too! If it’s winter, plan a really cute layered outfit for you and your partner. Accessorize with pieces that will keep you warm like an oversized scarf and wool fedora. Or bring blankets to bundle up in like we did for this winter maternity session amongst a fresh snowfall.
